Bowditch / Kipps > Fogou

A sound installation consisting of a sculpture made by Kipps turned into a sonic instrument using a contact mic amp and transducer by Bowditch.

For this touring sound installation Kipps and Bowditch used the theme of a Fogou to splice their interest in ancient structures with contemporary rituals of experiencing live music.

A Fogou is an ancient underground drystone wall cavern found in Cornwall. After 2000 years their intended use is still unclear (one present-day theory suggests that journeying through a Fogou allows access to an alternate dimension).

The performance was an improvised manipulation and layering of the unique tone produced by the sculpture to bring a durational aspect to sculpture and a physical shape to sound.
